Bio

Rosa Ross was boRosa Ross was born in British Hong Kong into a Macanese family with ancestral roots in Portuguese Macao. She has lived in Europe, Asia, South America, and many parts of this country. She is the author of three cookbooks on Asian cooking, a caterer, cooking teacher, and a founding member of the James Beard Foundation. Rosa worked closely with Peter Kump and Julia Child to raise the money to launch the Beard Foundation and was a mainstay of the "House" in the early days.

For over twenty years, Rosa taught cooking classes to professional and avocational students at the New York Cooking School, as well as in classes all over the United States. As a cooking teacher, she has designed individual classes for private students, including classes that stressed healthy Chinese cooking which focused on low fat recipes and cooking techniques that resulted in delicious dishes without compromising taste. For twelve years, she was Chef/Owner at Scrimshaw Restaurant in Greenport where Rosa brought her international background to a modern American menu with Asian influences which reflected the way Americans like to eat today. Recently Rosa decided that it was time to move on.

Rosa kicked off her new ventures by giving a TEDTalk on Mentoring, a subject close to her heart. She does small pop up dinners, teaches classes, recipe testing, is working on a writing project, and…. most excitingly, she has started a new career in Real Estate, working with Daniel Gale Sotheby’s.

During her years abroad and also living in different cities in the United States, Rosa has had to find and establish many homes. She brings this experience and a special sensibility and understanding to people looking for a place to call home, an undertaking that can be daunting but nevertheless rewarding.
