She quickly discovered the many amazing things to love about her new hometown, and the beachside life has completely won her over. Building community is important to Karen, who, while raising her son in NYC, immersed herself in service as an active member of Temple Israel and a member and president of the PTA at each school her son attended, including PS183, East Side Middle School, and NYC Lab School. In addition, she undertook the demanding task of co-chairing numerous auction committees over the years to successfully raise much needed funds for the New York City Public Schools.
