Garden City Real Estate

Located in Nassau County on Long Island, Garden City is a village in the Town of Hempstead, New York. The village was originally founded in 1869 by the multi-millionaire Alexander Turney Stewart. Stewart originally envisioned the town as a respite from New York city life. The community was established in a very organized way to allow for the proper conducting of business as well as comfortable living.

Historically, Garden City has played a prominent role in aviation history. Being the home of Roosevelt Field, Garden City was the originating point for Charles Lindbergh's landmark transatlantic flight in 1927. Many prominent attractions like the Cradle of Aviation Museum and the Roosevelt Field Mall are related to the historic aviation theme.

Garden City real estate went through two pronounced periods of growth after its incorporation with Garden City Estates in 1919. One period was in the 1920s, a time that saw growth in Nassau County real estate, particularly in East Garden City and houses built in Garden City Estates. Another period was after World War II, at which time there was considerable development in the nearby towns of Garden City Park, East Garden City, Stewart Manor and Garden City South.
