Bio

Rosa Ross was born in Hong Kong into a Macanese family with ancestral roots in Portuguese Macao. She has lived in Europe, Asia, South America, and many parts of this country. She is the author of three cookbooks on Asian cooking, a caterer, cooking teacher, and a founding member of the James Beard Foundation. Rosa worked closely with Peter Kump and Julia Child to raise the money to launch the Beard Foundation and was a mainstay of the "House" in the early days.
As a cooking teacher, she has designed classes for private students including classes that stressed healthy Chinese cooking, focusing on low fat recipes and cooking techniques that resulted in delicious dishes without compromising taste.

As Chef/owner at Scrimshaw Restaurant in Greenport, Rosa brought her international background to a modern American menu which was both different and exciting and reflected the way Americans like to eat today. She owned the restaurant for twelve years, and recently decided that it was time to move on.

Rosa kicked off her new ventures by giving a TEDTalk on Mentoring, a subject close to her heart. Currently, Rosa is busy doing small pop up dinners, teaching classes, writing, recipe testing, and….she has started a new career in Real Estate working with Daniel Gale Sothebys.
